GLOSSARY · INVESTING
Diversification
Spreading money across many investments, so that a loss in any one has a small effect on the whole. Holding many companies through a broad fund nearly removes the risk of one company failing, and combining stocks with high-quality bonds softens the fall in many market declines. It does not remove the risk that the whole market falls.
