First-year choice

An election that lets someone who misses the substantial presence test in their arrival year, but meets it the next year, be treated as a resident from part-way through the arrival year. It requires 31 consecutive days of presence and presence on at least 75% of the days from then to year end, and is made with a statement attached to Form 1040.
