Flood insurance (NFIP)

Separate cover for damage from rising water, which standard homeowners and renters policies exclude. Most US flood policies are written through FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program, which caps building and contents cover, pays contents at depreciated value, and usually starts only after a 30-day waiting period. Private and excess flood policies can add higher limits.
