Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP)

The federal income-driven plan created by the 2025 budget law and opened on July 1, 2026. The payment is a share of adjusted gross income that rises with income bands, reduced for each dependent and subject to a small minimum. Interest the payment does not cover is waived, the government adds a matching amount to principal when a payment barely reduces it, and any balance left after 360 qualifying payments is forgiven.

FORMULA
Monthly payment = AGI × band rate ÷ 12 − a fixed amount per dependent, with a minimum
