Sailing permit (certificate of compliance)
A certificate that most departing aliens must obtain from the IRS before leaving the US, showing they have met their income tax obligations so far. It is obtained by filing Form 1040-C or Form 2063, and several categories, including many students and short-term visitors, are exempt. It does not replace the annual return for the year.
