GLOSSARY · INSURANCE
Visitor medical insurance
Short-term insurance that pays for medical care if a traveller falls ill or is injured during a visit. It is not a comprehensive health plan: the NAIC lists pre-existing conditions among the most common exclusions, and some policies add only limited cover for a sudden, unexpected flare-up of a known condition, often called acute onset. What it pays depends on the policy maximum, the deductible, and whether it is a fixed-benefit or a comprehensive plan.
