GLOSSARY · VISA-HOLDER FINANCE

Currency risk (spending currency)

The chance that a change in exchange rates changes what your savings are worth in the currency you will spend. It comes from a mismatch: money held in one currency but spent in another. Holding savings in the currency of your future spending removes the exchange-rate risk on that money; for money that must be converted, a higher interest rate in one currency only wins if it beats that currency's fall.
